“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. “
Proverbs 4:25 NIV
What you focus on matters.
The Israelites spent 40 years in the wilderness — Jesus spent 40 days. An 11 day journey became years because God’s people were focused on their lack; complaining, doubtful, fearful. (Jos 5:6) Jesus on the other hand was focused on the Father; present, prayer filled and secure. He kept his eye on God and fought temptation with the authority of the Scripture. (Mat 4:4,7,10)
The fastest way to get to where you want to go is through where you are right now, steadily trusting in the faithfulness of God. Try as we might, we cannot remain in the know for too long and things rarely go according to our plan. It is not until we are standing in the midst of everything we thought we knew being stripped away, that we are forced to allow life to unfold and remain in the present to experience it.
Our feelings don’t have to shape our future — our victory has already been won through the power of the cross. It's up to us whether we choose to walk in that truth. If we keep our eyes on God, we won’t trip over our own feet (Ps 25:15)
Sometimes victory looks like falling to your knees instead of standing tall. Sometimes it feels like going backwards, but God is continually enlarging the path beneath us leading us closer to our divine purpose. (Ps 18:36)
Ignore the distractions trying to pull you in multiple directions and fix your eyes on Jesus, the one beckoning you onward towards real life. (Phil 3:12-14)
centering prayer
LORD, help me be mindful of each moment today. Guard my heart from distractions.
Thank you that you are always with me and are intricately involved in my journey.
I fix my eyes on you and you alone. amen.
