“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength; and love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

Luke 10:27 NIV

There is no greater commandment than this today.

Spending time with God and acknowledging Him in all our ways is the most important habit we can develop in our lives. Amidst all the distractions and demands clamoring for our attention, we need meaningful, set-apart time in order to hear, obey and live according to His word. (Hosea 6:6)

As you consider your relationship with God, is He the priority relationship in your life?

David examples this adoration beautifully throughout the psalms. In Psalm 27, he writes, ‘One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.’  (Psalm 27:4)
We see this craving again in Psalm 84, “My soul longs, yes faints for the courts of the Lord..for a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.” (Psalm 84: 2, 10)
His insistence and desire for God’s presence displays an intimate affection not only for God’s blessing but simply for God Himself. His presence was a vital necessity to David’s existence.

Wholehearted devotion establishes a deeper, authentic relationship with God, empowering us to love others well, grow spiritually and experience the peace and fulfillment that only God can give us!

Dedicate your mind to the Lord: to think on things that are good, pure, and excellent taking captive every thought that is not from God. (2 Cor 10:5)

Dedicate your strength to the Lord: to be confident in His ability to work in and through you believing you can accomplish whatever He has called you to if you trust in His sufficiency. (Phil 4:13)

Dedicate your heart to the Lord: to love patiently because He loves you perfectly, forgive quickly because He has forgiven you fully and serve joyfully because He serves you passionately. (Gal 2:20)

Return to your first love today. If we keep God first, everything we do will prosper.

Practice:

Someone once said, as you begin your day, so goes your day….how about beginning each day with a psalm this week. Choose a psalm to meditate on. Read it slowly, and out loud as you would a prayer. As you read, notice what stands out to you, and what God may want to speak to you.

If you find this difficult or boring, ask God to help you. It is God who gives us the desire to desire Him! The more we enter into His presence, the more we will realize we cannot live without Him.
