“But he said to me, “my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
God’s grace is sufficient when we understand our insufficiency.
God chose us. He chooses to see us, think about us, care for us and give us good gifts. He chooses to empower us through our weakness and delights in pouring out his grace. He does this because he is worthy— he is worthy to be praised and worshiped for all eternity.
In a culture that idolizes self-sufficiency, it’s easy to want to rely on ourselves. Many believe spiritual maturity is somehow arriving to a place where we have our act together and life becomes “easy.” However, this ‘independence’ is an illusion. In fact, God often orchestrates our circumstances so we would be in constant dependence on his grace and strength.
Whatever your struggle, God’s grace is sufficient to sustain you.“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Pe 5:7) In the greek, “cast” means to throw or hurl, therefore, you can aggressively throw your anxieties and worries at His feet—why? Because He cares. Perhaps this was the revelation of the psalmist who wrote, “who am I that you are thinking of me?” (Ps 8:4) The perplexity of such an amazing being as God caring for each of us.
Friend, you don’t need to be strong enough or have it all together. You need Jesus. You need to worship Jesus. For his power is perfected through your weakness.
Let us become like little children: ask for help, consider others, express wonder and awe and submit to the authority of God. He is more than happy to use those who are weak for it only points back to his majestic glory!
