“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”

1 John 4:18 ESV

Only the perfect love of Christ is powerful enough to remove our fears.

Drawing near to Christ allows us to take the focus off our ourselves, turning away from the sea of uncertainty stirring our emotions and towards the beauty and promise of Jesus.

What if our anxiety is connected to our lack of time in His presence? As Charles Spurgeon writes, “Nearness to God brings likeness to God. The more you see God, the more of God will be seen in you.”

This should encourage us to press on, friend. Press on to know the Lord.  It’s what we were made for! Jesus removed the penalty and power of sin so that we could know him in his full supremacy. His love alone drives out all fear. We don’t need to fear the future, or failure, or persecution—who cares what people think when we have the love of the King!

When we come to know him, we will be driven to pray, evangelize and fight against sin. His presence alone keeps us from stumbling (Ju 1:24).

Turn to God. He will help you. He is the only one who understands your greatest need. Trust and rely on His good nature and unchanging character. He cannot fail you. May his great love compel you to persevere as you keep looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (He 12:2).

Grace be yours in abundance,
Makenzi

reflect:

Resist the temptation to seek comfort from anyone other than God today. Is the enemy tempting you not to pray? —Pray all the more! Is he convincing you the Bible isn’t what you need right now? —Dive in and read. Fight the good fight of faith and turn towards God without delay.

centering prayer:

LORD, I look to you. You’re where my help comes from. amen.
