renew
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2 NIV
God is the God to be worshipped. His is the knowledge to attain.
Many of us live our lives based on our feelings, merely concerned with what we’re doing: How do I feel today? How do I feel about my spouse? How do I feel about my job? Do I feel like praying? Do I feel like reading my Bible? Do I feel like giving?
Feelings and works are important, but in order to experience the transforming power of God in our lives we can’t succumb to mere emotion. We must ask ourselves what is true here? What does God’s Word say?
“Pray without ceasing” (1 Th 5:17).
“Meditate on my words day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it” (Jo 1:8).
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans” (Pro 16:3).
“Whoever is kind to the needy honors God” (Pro 14:31).
That’s the thing about God’s truth— it asks us to change. Abiding awakens the soul to God’s good and acceptable and perfect will.
In light of God’s mercy, resist conforming to the thoughts, judgments and beliefs of this world and yield your entire self to God, allowing him to remold your mind so that you can put into practice that which God has prepared for you as you move towards full maturity in Christ.
May we choose to rededicate ourselves to God day after day and set our heart, mind and will upon Jesus. May we train the eyes of our hearts on that which is true, honest, just, pure and lovely. May we live in spirit and truth and walk in the light as He is light (Ph 4:8, 1 Jn 1:7).
reflect:
How true that you become like the person you spend the most time with. 1 John 1:7 says, “if we walk in the light, as he is light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” What does it look like for you to walk in the light of Jesus today? Recall the ways in which God is currently working in you and transforming your spirit.
centering prayer
LORD, I choose to walk intimately with You today. amen.
