“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 ESV
Recalling the truths of Scripture leads to divine revelation and sanctification, no matter the generation or time.
Apostle Paul’s epistles to the early churches are as relevant to us today as they were to the earlier Christians. These timely reminders are inspired by the Holy Spirit and were meant for the original audience as much as they are meant for us to cherish, learn and also teach from.
His letter to the Thessalonians reminds the body to stay pure in abounding Christian love for one another and to abstain from sexual immorality despite the obsessions of their modern day culture. This type of purity is a holiness that’s rooted in the process of sanctification. As Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 3:13, it’s through love that God establishes our hearts ‘blameless in holiness before our God and Father...’. What a tremendous reminder to esteem the character of God's love in our lives! (1 Thess 3:12-13)
Paul also admonishes to edify the Philippians church to follow Christ’s example of true humility. "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves" (Ph 2:3). And reminds the Roman church with the exhortation to, ‘Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.’ as the Roman world around them didn’t like that they were proclaiming one monotheistic God of the Bible.
Scripture reminds us of our future hope, knowing when we come face to face with our Creator, we will be pure, sanctified, abounding in Godly love and blameless before our Lord Jesus. God is so faithful, friend. The security of your salvation, discipleship and sanctification is anchored in God’s faithfulness as we look with steadfast hope, faith and love at the coming arrival of Jesus one day.
In Christ,
