“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever! Amen.”
2 Peter 3:18 NIV
When we come to the end of ourselves we reach the beginning of God.
Leading up to the crucifixion, the disciple Peter was certain he could never deny Jesus (Jn 13:37). Yet, when the pressures began to surround him, he caved— he denied (Jn 18:15-18). However, it was absolutely necessary for Peter to fall. He had finally reached the end of all self-sufficiency. Now, there was no part of him that would ever rely on himself again and he was ready to receive all that the Lord had for him (Jn 21:18-19).
God can fill us in an instant—it’s the emptying that takes time. Through trial and weakness, God brings us low until we learn grace is all we need (2 Cor 12:9). Only when we have reached the end of our own cleverness and ability, only when we have truly given up trying to prove ourselves can we begin to grow in grace.
Continue to develop dependence on God day by day as the Holy Spirit works to lead and conform you into the likeness of Christ (Phil 2:12-13). Lean into His miraculous care, knowing He’s faithful to see you through any hardship or temptation (1 Cor 10:13). His power is made perfect in weakness because it proves He is the only one powerful enough to deliver. It ensures He alone gets the glory and deepens our trust in Him.
Rejoice today and know that Christ alone is your strength. He is your well of joy and salvation! Not your good works or intentions, but God. To Him be the glory both now and the days to come.
reflect:
When we grow in grace, we illuminate Christ to a broken world. Are you growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus? Are you devoted to regular Bible study, prayer and fellowship? If not, ask God to help you and actively respond to what He reveals.
centering prayer
LORD, may I grow in grace with every passing day. amen.
