“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:3 NIV
Total dependence on God is the doorway to the Kingdom.
Have you ever thought to yourself, "Wow, I really have it all together," only to trip over yourself shortly after?
How humbled we are in those moments.
Life quickly has a way of reminding us of our limitations. No matter how successful, strong, smart, or talented we may be, every moment is attributed to God’s amazing grace. We live in a self affirming culture where God is often seen as a prop to be used for our own glory— for this reason, our spiritual barrenness acts as a gift shaping our desire to be satisfied by God alone.
Allow this mind set to free you to enjoy what God has planned for today. “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God.”… Beyond material wealth, Jesus was speaking to a heart posture of those who are self-sufficient striving to get by on their hard work or good deeds. However, God has designed us to need Him moment by moment. In our weakest hour, He is our greatest strength.
Whether this is the sabbatical you’ve been waiting for, or every day is bringing you closer to insanity…the Lord is continuously leading us to a place of internal surrender. We must arrive at the complete end of ourselves in order to receive His sufficiency. Perhaps God does His best work in and through us when all we have left to depend on is Him— when the Holy Spirit can have His uninterrupted way with us.
In Luke 18, Jesus explains that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who has everything to enter into God’s kingdom realm. “Then who has any chance at all?” they asked..
“No chance at all,” “if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.”
(Luke 18:24-27 MSG)
centering prayer
LORD, because of all You have done for me, I present my body to You as a living sacrifice for this day.
