“But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water which yields it’s fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”
Psalm 1:2-3 NIV
Enjoying the presence of God strengthens you.
A tree by a river has a continual source of water. It is strong and stable, with deep roots always getting what it needs. Such is the life of faith— which orients itself around God’s Word, leading to blessing, fruitfulness and relationship with God.
Meditating on God’s word day and night does is not necessarily reciting Scripture all throughout the day. It is to realize the wonderful new life found in God. It is to find our way, truth and life in the person of Jesus Christ. As we spend time in the breadth of God’s Word every day, our lives become deeply rooted trees that bear fruit. Rather than depend on external circumstances for peace and rest, we draw upon the strength of God.
Strengthening our character is often mundane and requires patience. Day after day obedience, trusting in what we cannot see. However, trees don’t uproot in winter, they remain. Even when it seems like nothing is changing, we can choose to trust that God is working and knows what we need to get us to where he wants us to be. (Phil 1:6)
By nature, our hearts are prone to wander, but through Christ, God gives us the desire for His presence and the power to please Him. Christ’s faithful obedience made it possible for us to walk faithfully by the power of the Holy spirit, each day being transformed more into the glorious image of God. (2 Cor 3:18)
"They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.” (Is 61:3)
