“This is what the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
Hebrews 3:7 NIV
Turn down the noise. Amp up the Gospel.
Hebrews 3 references Israel’s wandering in the desert from the story of Exodus—in approaching the promised land, Israel lost their confidence in God, and only a few were allowed to enter.
Likewise, we have the promised victory through our spiritual inheritance. Christ Jesus holds authority over God’s entire house and WE are members of that household. If you have trusted in his sacrificial death and glorious resurrection, your eternal salvation is secured forever. Nothing can snatch you from the hands of the Father for he has promised to hold us fast until the end and sanctify us completely (Phil 1:6).
While we may be tempted to lose faith in the face of hardship, let us fully trust in him in order to see his promises fulfilled.
Remember Lot’s wife? In Genesis 19, two angels arrived to safely lead Lot and his family out of the city of Sodom prior to the Lord’s judgement. They warned them “not to look back,” but his wife did, and she turned into a pillar of salt! (Ge 19:26)
Salt is meant to preserve the kingdom of God (Mt 5:13). When we try to preserve the things of this world our hearts become hardened, stunted by our disobedience. Continue to press forward and delight yourself in the things of the Lord. Much will be after your attention today, but be encouraged to listen for God’s voice and heed His direction.
For today is the day we are to live our life unto God. Today is the day we grow in grace and mature in faith. Today is the day of salvation!
centering prayer
LORD, keep my heart tender to hear your voice and respond to your grace. amen.
