entrust
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV
Endeavor to give God all your conscious trust.
Solomon was a man who had seen, learned, and tried it all — but throughout his life, he found God was always worthy to be trusted. He knew despite what he saw, despite what he felt, despite what he understood, God's character remained the same. Here in Proverbs Solomon is advising his son to live a life of complete, conscious trust in God.
To help paint this picture I want to draw on a quote from a man named Warren Wiersbe, “The word translated “trust” in verse 5 means to lie helpless, facedown. It pictures a servant waiting for the master’s commands in readiness to obey.”
Yet, how often do we do the opposite? When God isn’t showing up; when He isn’t answering our prayers; when He isn’t giving us the things we desire we easily put ourselves back into the driver's seat.
Instead of posturing ourselves in surrender and willingness to obey, we take matters into our own hands and wonder if perhaps He can be trusted at all. But is trusting God halfway really trusting God at all?
As imperfect people, it is impossible for us to trust the Lord perfectly. However, proverbs reminds us to trust God “with all of our heart.” Trusting God with all of our heart means deciding to put away our own understanding and instead choosing to trust God and His understanding. It is a child-like and unwavering confidence in God's character rather than circumstance.
We get a choice every day friend, to invite God into every area of our lives. The big, the small, the exciting, the mundane. We get a choice to “acknowledge Him in all our ways.” Within that trust, God’s response will direct your path in the fulfillment of His will. The surrendered heart delights in God’s direction and path.
As we walk along hand in hand trusting in God’s unchanging character, we will come to see that we have been on the path God intended all along.

reflect:
What areas of your life are you holding onto? Any areas of doubt or unbelief? Imagine yourself gripping onto these things tightly, with a fist. Now imagine yourself releasing your hands and giving them up to your Father. He is worthy to carry them.
centering prayer:
Abba, today I give you my hand and ask that you help me to trust you even deeper. Reveal the areas of my life and heart where I’m walking in unbelief and help me to surrender them to you. Help me to delight in your direction and path for my life even if it’s not what I want. Help me to release control and desire Your will for my life above all else. I love you and I thank you for the new thing you’re doing. amen.
