“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.””

1 Peter 1:13-16 ESV

Living honorably before God inclines others to see His Glory.

Oftentimes, the greatest hindrance to our spiritual growth is our desire to be liked. We want the approval of man more than the approval of God. But we are called to be set apart for the sake of the gospel (Gal 1:10). We are called to walk the narrow path, the difficult way, because this is not our final destination! Jesus died to set us free from sin and our lives are now hidden with him in the heavenly places (Col 3:3).

On the basis of God’s saving grace in verses 1-12, Peter motivates us to focus our lives on the future grace to be obtained so that we wouldn’t be discouraged by our current trials, but driven to lead a holy life.
Be bold, friend. Don’t settle for sloppy living. God created you to be different. To think differently. To be a light in the darkness. To not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Ro 12:1-2).

God’s grace has changed our lives and it’s time to walk in a new direction. People may not understand, but you’re not accountable to them (Ro 14:12). Let your life be swept away into a life consumed by God filled with his holiness! To those who conquer, Jesus promises an unfailing supply of spiritual nourishment (Rev 2:17, Jn 6:35).

This isn’t about outward behavior modification—this is a true inward spiritual transformation. It’s the fruit of the spirit that only comes from having roots in Jesus Christ because you’re dwelling in His word and soaking in His presence. By his power alone, we can live a life worthy of the calling we have received.
